Microsoft has made a lot of Surface Pros over the years.
There was the Pro 3, the 4, the Core i5 and then the 6.

Microsoft surface pro X and Pro 7 Laptops

Now this year, they are making two new Surface Pros.
There’s the Surface Pro 7, which looks just like the other Surface Pros. But then there’s this one. This is very different. This is the Surface Pro X. So right away,
There’s a 13-inch screen inside the same type of 12-inch chassis that we’ve seen on the Surface Pro in recent years.

You can see either side of this screen. The bezels have been reduced.
Even the top bezel is thinner.
You still have the Windows Hello camera there, and all that sort of thing.
And the bottom bezel, you
I don’t even notice it because the font cover pushes against it.
Then the screen looks considerably
better than what we see today on Surface Pro.
The resolution of the screen itself is 2880 x 1920
and it’s still the same
3: 2 aspect ratio we’ve seen on almost all Surface devices.
So there is much more to
Let’s talk about the hardware here. But all you really need to know is that you have this little thing inside. Now this is a Surface SQ1 processor.
It has been jointly designed between Microsoft and Qualcomm, which means that this device
it’s a Surface Pro X with ARM.

We’ve now seen some of these over the years, and what is essentially a smartphone chip inside your laptop. Therefore, you are supposed to reap the benefits of the world of smartphones, in the world of PCs.
Now what that means is built-in all-day battery life LTE connectivity, so you can use this device wherever you are, on the train, in the cafeteria, anywhere. And I’ve briefly tested the performance here,
It seems like I’m using a regular laptop like it’s really hard to tell the difference between a Surface Pro 7 and this one, only in the few minutes I’ve been using it.

Microsoft has also done some
cool stuff on the GPU side here with Qualcomm. And essentially, the GPU that is built into this chip is a 2.1 Teraflop GPU. Now in real-world terms, that’s essentially the equivalent power of an Xbox One console. Now, that doesn’t mean it’s going to run Xbox games here, but what it does mean is that it’s capable of sort of graphics, tasks a little intense, let’s say. But just like current workloads, like if you want to load a game here, those are some of the restrictions that are around Windows and ARM right now.

It is not compatible with open GL games, for example. Some of its apps like Dropbox that are integrated into Windows folder structure will not work. And those are some of the limitations that exist with Windows in ARM. So the other major hardware change here is the Surface Pen. Now, this is a new Surface Slim Pen that, anyway, as the name implies, is much thinner and flatter than the Surface Pro Pen we’ve seen before. Now what this really actually means is that it actually inserts itself on top of the keyboard where it will also load. And when you actually undock it, the software will appear and say:

“Do you want to use the blackboard?”
“Do you want to take a screenshot?”

All those kinds of things. That is also something new. You can also use the button, where you double tap
and get your favorite apps. Very similar to the pen experience type, but in a very different form factor.
The other major change here is that you will be able to remove SSDs on this Surface Pro X. Now how you do it is hidden behind the kickstand here. There is a dish that you can
pops up with a SIM tool, and then there’s the, do you ever see the SIM slot where you get your LTE connectivity from, obviously? And then next to that there is an M.2 SSD where you can literally take it out.
How this will work in principle, it is basically for commercial customers who want to exchange their SSDs and companies, that will be great for them. But also on the consumer side,
If your device fails, like the SSD fails, you can go to a Microsoft store and have it changed for you.

Therefore, Microsoft has not confirmed whether they are selling these individually or not, but it looks like it could be a possibility in the future. So, for these Surface Pro X specs, you’re looking at 8 gigs of RAM
and 128 gigabytes of storage. That will then go up to 5×12 gigabytes of storage and 16 gigabytes of RAM. And the Surface Pro X will start at $ 999 and go up to $ 1,799. So in terms of ports you won’t find any USB-A here.

There are actually 2 USB-C ports on the left side of the device, right next to the volume control. And there are no other ports apart from Surface Connect. So Microsoft is keeping the Surface Connect charger port here, which the company has used in most of its Surface products. And they actually moved the power button from the top that you would normally find on the Surface Pro, rounding to the right side. And (mutters)? There is no headphone jack, so prepare your Bluetooth headphones. So this is not the only Surface Pro today. Microsoft also has Surface Pro 7. Now this looks pretty much like last year’s model. The real changes here are inside. Therefore, Microsoft is updating the Surface Pro 7 with the latest 10th generation processors from Intel. Now what that means is that you can also select between an I3, I5 or Core I7. And pretty much the same kind of options we’ve seen on Surface Pro before. Obviously, it will be better battery life, better performance, all the kinds of things you would expect from the latest Intel chips. And aside from that, the Surface cover is pretty much the same. However, there are some new colors. There’s like the color red, which looks a little more orange than red, I’d say. And then there’s this cobalt blue color, which is essentially some kind of lighter blue than last year. And then the standard gray color has actually gotten a bit darker, like almost slate gray, at least in the keyboard area.

However, the main hardware change here is that Microsoft finally turned USB-C on Surface Pro. So while we do have 2 USB ports on the Surface Pro X, this particular Surface Pro 7 has a single USB port instead of where was the mini screen port last year. So it still has the normal USB-A port, and Microsoft still uses the surface connector here as well, so you will be able to use all kinds of old accessories and docks, and all those kinds of things you would have used previously. There is also a headphone jack. So, you’re getting that on Surface Pro X. So, in terms of raw Surface Pro specs, you’re getting 4 gigabytes of RAM, which is also 6 gigabytes. You also have the base tier of 128 gigs of storage that will go up to 1 terabyte of storage. So it’s not that different from last year’s options. So, in terms of pricing, it will start at $ 749, and that will go up to $ 2,299. And that’s if you want the Core i7 processor, 16 gigs of RAM and 1 terabyte of storage. So the top. So you’ll be able to preorder Surface Pro X and Surface Pro 7 today, but Surface Pro 7 will arrive on October 22. And Surface Pro X, we don’t know exactly when it will arrive
but sometime later in the holiday season.
Microsoft released a bunch of
new Surface hardware today.
